The Avalon Clan originated from the surviving eggs of the Wyvern Clan. After the Magus placed Goliath and the remaining Wyvern gargoyles under a sleep spell, he and Princess Katharine vowed to protect the clan’s 36 eggs. Accompanied by Tom, later known as the Guardian of the Eggs, they attempted to reach King Kenneth’s castle in 995, but were driven away by Lord Constantine’s coup. The Magus instead brought them to Avalon, where time passed differently. The eggs hatched in 1058, and the gargoyles were raised in peace and isolation.

Katharine, the Magus, and Tom raised the hatchlings as rookery parents, imitating gargoyle customs as best they could. Many were named after angels, while their beasts were named after warriors. The children were told of their origins, and stories of Goliath elevated him to near-legendary status among them.

In late 1995, the Enhanced Archmage attacked Avalon. Tom brought Goliath, Elisa, and Bronx to aid the clan. With the help of King Arthur, they defeated the Archmage, the Weird Sisters, Macbeth, and Demona. Afterward, Angela left Avalon to join Goliath in Manhattan, and Gabriel’s mate Ophelia became the new Second-in-Command.

Six months later, only a week on Avalon, Oberon and Titania returned to reclaim the island. Given the choice to leave or be destroyed, the Clan instead challenged Oberon in a hunt. Though Guardian could have killed him, he chose mercy. Impressed, Oberon allowed the Clan to remain as his Honor Guard, granting them immunity from his magic.

Though future threats loom, including the return of Queen Mab, the Clan is confirmed to exist in some form by 2198. By then, it will be a founding member of the Gargoyle Nation, though its leader and eggs will be kidnapped during the Space-Spawn attack. A small number of humans will know of the Clan’s existence, though Avalon itself will remain largely unknown.
