Sometime around the 1st century AD, the Hound of Ulster emerged from one of the Irish gargoyle clans, suggesting that Cú Chulainn was aware of gargoyles during his lifetime. Little else is known of the Irish clans’ early history, including their protectorates or their relationships with local humans or the Sidhe.
In the 11th century, Donalbain, living in exile in Ireland, came to respect the gargoyle clans there. He later shared this view with his brother, Malcolm Canmore, hoping to spare the Northumbria Clan in 1093. Canmore, already acting as a Hunter, was unmoved and ordered their destruction.
By 1996, the Irish Clan was extinct, likely wiped out by human persecution centuries earlier.
