Persia was once home to one or more ancient gargoyle clans, now presumed extinct. These clans likely existed across multiple Persian empires, inhabiting and guarding monumental cities, palaces, and sacred sites from the Achaemenid period onward.
Persian gargoyles may have served as protectors of royal authority and cosmic order, concepts central to Persian culture and religion. Their influence may survive indirectly in Persian art, particularly in the imagery of winged guardians and hybrid beings associated with kingship and divine favor.
At some point, possibly during periods of conquest, religious transformation, or human persecution, the Persian gargoyle clans disappeared. Whether they were destroyed, driven into exile, or fragmented into smaller groups remains unknown. No confirmed successor clans are known to exist.
The Persian gargoyle clans are therefore presumed lost, their legacy lingering only in the enduring myths and monumental remains of Persia.
