Charles Canmore was born in 1936 into a family defined by its hatred of gargoyles. Like the other Canmores, he became a Hunter, fanatically dedicated to the eradication of Demona and all of her kind.

His obsession culminated on September 28, 1980, when he confronted Demona inside Notre Dame Cathedral as she attempted to reclaim the Praying Gargoyle from its hidden cache. He attacked Demona, who defended herself. The encounter proved fatal, Charles died during the battle.
