Jason Canmore was born in 1964. As a youth, he traveled with his siblings Robyn and Jon to Paris in 1980, accompanying their father Charles Canmore during his hunt for Demona. On the night of September 28, they witnessed Charles’s death at Demona’s hands inside Notre Dame Cathedral. Driven by grief and rage, Jason swore revenge, took up the Hunter’s mask, and joined his siblings in a global crusade to destroy Demona and all gargoyles.
In 1996, the siblings arrived in New York City. Jason adopted the alias Jason Conover and joined the police force at the 23rd precinct, chosen for its high number of gargoyle sightings. He was partnered with Elisa Maza, with neither aware of the other’s secret, and he gradually developed feelings for her.
On his first night in Manhattan, Jason and his siblings attacked Goliath, Angela, and Hudson at a Xanatos Enterprises warehouse. Mistaking Angela for Demona, Jason critically wounded her, nearly killing her, and ignited the feud between the Manhattan Clan and the Hunters. The siblings later tracked the clan to the Clock Tower and destroyed it, though Jason briefly left the attack when he saw Elisa arriving at the precinct. He later rescued her from danger, during which she discovered his true identity.
The next day, Jason met Elisa in the ruins of the Clock Tower and learned that she was an ally of the gargoyles. She urged him to abandon the hunt and questioned the origins of his family’s feud. Jason admitted he did not know its true cause but believed it was too late to stop.
Seeking revenge, Goliath confronted the Hunters at their headquarters near a dam. When Elisa intervened, Goliath knocked Jason into her, sending both over the dam. They survived, and Jason saved Elisa’s life, returning her safely to the city. Realizing the error of his ways, Jason later accompanied Elisa to Saint Damien’s Cathedral and attempted to stop the final battle. He pleaded with Jon to give up the hunt, but Jon refused and fired at Goliath. Jason stepped in front of the shot, which severed his spine and left him paralyzed from the waist down.
Robyn brought Jason to the hospital, where Elisa visited him. Jason admitted that his mind needed more healing than his body. Elisa offered to help him while making clear that her heart belonged to Goliath, which Jason accepted. On Halloween night in 1996, Jason remained hospitalized under police guard and asked Elisa to promise she would find someone who could give her everything she wanted, deepening her doubts about her relationship with Goliath.
By December, Jason had been transferred to Rikers Island for rehabilitation, though his recovery was slow and his legal status uncertain. During a visit, he and Robyn learned that Jon had become John Castaway, leader of the Quarrymen. In the future, Jason will attempt to turn his brother away from his destructive path and will remain involved in the lives of Jon, Robyn, and Elisa as he struggles to rebuild his own.
