Eye of Odin

It enhanced the wearer’s powers while corrupting them, amplifying both their greatest strengths and deepest weaknesses.

Odin surrendered his right eye to Mimir in exchange for wisdom. After Mimir’s beheading, the Eye vanished from recorded history, believed to have been taken as salvage and carried forward through later ages.

By 975, the Eye had been transformed into a jewel on Avalon. Though altered, it remained mystically linked to Odin and retained a measure of his power. Rather than granting power evenly, the Eye amplified its wearer’s true nature, enhancing both virtues and flaws.

In 1108, the Eye was mounted in a raven-shaped setting and worn by Sigurd Magnusson, who enjoyed remarkable success in battle while bearing it. During fighting in Sidon in 1110, the setting was shattered, though the Eye survived. The gargoyle Skade recovered the jewel and later had it reset in an Egyptian-style mounting. In 1111, Sigurd received it again but soon gifted it to Alexios Komnenos of Constantinople, placing it in imperial hands.

The Eye remained in Constantinople for eighty-four years, held among the imperial regalia. In 1195, during the reign of Isaac Angelos, Demona infiltrated the imperial treasury, replaced the Eye with a convincing replica, and escaped with the real artifact. The archivist overseeing the collection was later murdered, and the counterfeit Eye vanished.

Demona eventually offered the Eye to her daughter Angelika, believing it might grant immortality. Angelika rejected it as a curse and cast it into the sea.

By 1994, the Eye resurfaced in the possession of David Xanatos. He publicly donated it to a museum, then secretly reclaimed it through a staged theft. In 1995, Xanatos gave the Eye to Fox as an engagement gift. When worn, it transformed her into a feral state and nearly killed her, forcing Xanatos to ally with Goliath to remove it. Goliath secured the Eye at the Clock Tower.

Macbeth and Demona later stole the Eye, along with the Grimorum Arcanorum and the Phoenix Gate, delivering them to the Archmage. The Eye enhanced his power and stabilized the Grimorum until Goliath tore it away, causing the Archmage’s destruction.

During the Avalon World Tour, Odin demanded the Eye’s return. Goliath briefly wore it to prevent this, becoming a powerful but corrupted avatar of Odin. Angela helped him regain clarity, and Goliath discarded the Eye. Odin reclaimed and reintegrated it, ending its long and destructive journey.
