Gungnir was wielded by Lord Valois in 971 to aid King Culen against Kenneth II. During the conflict, Valois used the spear to conjure watery hands that assaulted the Wyvern gargoyles when they intervened on Kenneth II’s behalf. The Archmage responded with a counter-spell that severed the spearhead from its shaft.

At an unknown point afterward, the lancehead became part of Anapaula Aguilar’s late husband’s private collection, despite repeated failed attempts to acquire the haft. By 1997, Doña Aguilar kept the lancehead in her home in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Dominique Destine later visited the residence, timing her arrival for sunset so she could transform into a gargoyle and steal the artifact.

Promising Thailog a controlling interest in Nightstone Unlimited, Demona enlisted him to steal the haft from the Illuminati’s treasury on Eastcheap Isle. Thailog located the shaft within Wyvern’s hoard while Shahrizad distracted the Society’s Dragon Treasurer.

After acquiring all Three Keys, Demona reassembled Gungnir in her Manhattan townhouse and used its power to target humanity worldwide. She succeeded in subjugating all humans in Manhattan and Brooklyn before being confronted by Goliath, Angela, and Turquesa at LaGuardia Airport. Once separated from the Three Keys, Coldfire instructed the gargoyles to release the enthralled humans from Demona’s geas. With the spell broken, Turquesa snapped the spear once more. The ultimate fate of the fragments remains unknown.
