The Luke & Noah Story

Luke fell in with Kevin, a reckless party-loving friend who constantly pushed him to drink, despite Luke’s dangerously damaged liver. Even knowing it could kill him, Luke gave in. When his family discovered the truth, Holden forbade him from seeing Kevin—but Luke defied his parents and continued sneaking out, unable to break the connection.

At the same time, a young woman named Jade Taylor entered the Snyders’ lives, claiming to be the daughter Luke’s Aunt Rose had given up for adoption. Tensions between Luke and Holden escalated, not only over Kevin but because Holden insisted Luke was hiding something. Luke denied it, but Jade gained his trust by covering for him when he attended a concert with Kevin. Eventually, Luke confided in her the truth he had kept from Holden for months: he was in love with Kevin. Terrified his parents would hate him, Luke begged Jade to keep his secret, and she agreed.

Soon after, Jade revealed a secret of her own—she wasn’t really his cousin. She had been conning the family and was close to being exposed. Desperate to maintain her comfortable life, Jade blackmailed Luke: help her stay, or she would reveal his secret. Luke complied, staging a situation in which his parents found him in bed with Jade. Though Lily was ready to throw Jade out, Luke insisted he was in love with her, forcing his parents to accept the lie.

When Luke later tried to reconnect with Kevin, Kevin brushed him off, leaving Luke disillusioned. Meanwhile, Jade continued manipulating the family, even attempting to seduce Luke for real. He pushed her away, an encounter Holden witnessed. Luke covered by claiming they were merely breaking house rules. Over time, Jade’s presence strained Lily, and Luke finally decided the deception wasn’t worth it. He came out to his parents as gay.

Ironically, Lily—rather than Holden—struggled most with the truth. Luke was devastated when he saw Damian speaking with Lily and accused her of trying to “fix” him. At Lily’s urging, Luke met with Dr. Kreeger, who informed him he would be sent to a camp for young men. Realizing it was a conversion program, Luke confronted Lily in fury. The argument escalated, and when Luke shoved her away, Lily fell down the stairs and slipped into a coma.

At the hospital, Holden blamed Luke for the accident and refused to believe Lily would send their son to such a place. Damian stepped in, offering Luke support and a place to stay. Convinced Holden hated him, Luke kept his distance—until Lily, still comatose, gave birth to a son. Wanting to reconcile, Luke prepared to return home, but became suspicious when he discovered pills in Damian’s pocket. His cousin Lucy revealed they were medication for a terminal illness. Damian confessed he was dying, and Luke agreed to go to Malta with him.

Holden warned Luke that Damian was lying, but Luke refused to listen. At the airport, Holden, Jack, and the police intervened, and chaos erupted when Damian’s associate Sergio briefly took Luke hostage. Damian diffused the situation and finally confessed the truth: he had come to Oakdale to manipulate Luke into turning over his inheritance to pay off dangerous enemies. Luke realized Damian—not Lily—had been behind the camp. Furious and betrayed, Luke disowned his father. Though he could have pressed kidnapping charges, he declined to protect the Snyder family.

Afterward, Luke traveled with friends to Raven Lake, where he finally came out to Kevin. Kevin reacted with cruelty, insulting Luke before accidentally falling into the lake. Luke saved him, performing CPR and getting him to the hospital. Shaken, Kevin apologized and thanked Luke for saving his life.

Luke’s friends accepted him, and Lily awoke from her coma. She told Luke she didn’t blame him for her fall and explained that her initial resistance stemmed from fear of the prejudice he would face. They reconciled. The family was stunned when Lily later discovered that Jade truly was Rose’s daughter after all, making her Luke’s cousin. The Snyders welcomed Jade back, and Luke cautiously rebuilt a friendship with her—while promising himself he would never again fall for someone straight or unavailable.

In June 2007, Luke begins an internship at WOAK, Oakdale’s local TV station, alongside his friend Maddie Coleman. They soon meet fellow intern Noah Mayer, whose arrogance immediately rubs Luke the wrong way. Despite himself, Luke develops feelings for Noah, breaking his promise never to fall for another unavailable guy. He keeps his distance, but is devastated when he discovers Noah and Maddie together in bed during a trip to Branson, Missouri. When Noah assumes Luke is interested in Maddie, Luke comes out to him to prove otherwise.

Weeks later, Luke admits he is attracted to Noah and confides his painful history with Kevin. Noah insists he is straight and, while he doesn’t want to lose Luke’s friendship, makes it clear nothing romantic can happen. Still, unresolved tension simmers. During a private swim at the Snyder Farm pond, a moment of intimacy between them leaves both shaken. Noah quickly retreats, strengthening his relationship with Maddie and encouraging her to stay in Oakdale for college.

Luke confronts both Maddie and Noah, warning Maddie she’s sacrificing her future and pressing Noah about what happened between them. Noah denies everything, reaffirming he is not gay. The arrival of Noah’s father, Army Colonel Winston Mayer, adds pressure. When Luke helps Noah with his tie before lunch, Noah impulsively kisses him—then immediately dismisses it as a joke. Luke refuses to accept that explanation, but Noah panics and pulls away.

Determined to protect Maddie, Luke considers telling her the truth, but ultimately keeps Noah’s secret. Noah later admits the kiss meant something, yet insists it can never happen again, asking Luke to stay silent. Their closeness continues to blur boundaries, and Maddie grows suspicious. Eventually, she confronts Luke and realizes the truth, leading to her breakup with Noah and his furious rejection of Luke.

Colonel Mayer responds by threatening Luke and later Lily, blaming Luke for Noah’s heartbreak. After a failed attempt to win Maddie back, Noah finally begins to accept his sexuality and apologizes to Luke. Believing his father has left town, Noah kisses Luke again—only for the colonel to walk in on them. Winston disowns Noah, then pretends to reconcile, inviting Luke and Noah on a fishing trip. There, he attempts to kill Luke, pushing him down a hill. Luke survives but is left paralyzed.

Overcome with guilt, Noah initially stays away, devastating Luke. When he finally returns, Luke asks Noah to be his boyfriend, and Noah commits himself to Luke’s recovery. Weeks later, Luke regains feeling in his legs. During a confrontation with Winston, in prison, Luke stands from his wheelchair and declares his love for Noah. Though Noah can’t yet say the words aloud, he asks Luke not to take them back.

Noah spends Thanksgiving with the Snyders, and by Christmas Eve, Luke is able to walk. That night, Noah gives Luke a card signed “Love, Noah,” finally affirming his feelings. On New Year’s Eve, Luke and Noah share their first date and first dance at the opening of Metro. Soon after, Noah asks Luke to move in together. Though hesitant, Luke finds a solution: with his family’s blessing, Noah moves in permanently at Snyder Farm, finally giving them both a home, and a future, together.

Ameera, an Iraqi woman, comes to Oakdale searching for Colonel Winston Mayer, believing him to be the man who once protected her and her mother during his military service. Facing an expired visa, dwindling money, and real danger if deported, she turns to Noah for help. Though Noah and Luke know Winston as abusive and cruel, Ameera’s memories complicate that image.

After the group is violently attacked for Ameera’s nationality and Luke and Noah’s sexuality, Homeland Security moves to deport Ameera. To save her, Noah agrees to a marriage of convenience. He assures Luke it is in name only—and for the first time tells him he loves him. The marriage forces Luke and Noah back into the closet as ICE monitors them closely, even pushing Luke to fake a relationship with Casey to sell the illusion.

Noah and Ameera move into a cottage to legitimize the marriage. Ameera tries earnestly to be a good wife, while Luke struggles with being erased from Noah’s public life. Tensions rise as Ameera feels excluded, Luke feels displaced, and Noah is torn between compassion and truth. Noah visits his imprisoned father alone, only to learn that Winston approves of the marriage but is enraged by Noah’s continued relationship with Luke.

When Ameera disappears, Luke and Noah briefly reconnect—until police reveal Winston has escaped from prison. Fearing for Ameera’s life, Noah tracks his father to New York. He asked Luke not to follow him, but Luke doesn’t listen. Winston is revealed to have kidnapped Ameera, and in a final confrontation, he kills himself, blaming it on Luke, leaving devastation in his wake.

Back in Oakdale, grief and blame fracture Luke and Noah’s relationship, leading to their breakup. During Cyndi Lauper’s visit to town, she helps reunite them, publicly affirming Luke during “True Colors.” Soon after, Noah comes out publicly but shocks Luke by revealing he has enlisted in the Army, believing it is something he must do. Luke fails to stop him and returns home heartbroken.

In his final interview, Noah reveals his sexuality to the recruiter and is told about don’t ask, don’t tell. In the end, Noah decides not to join the army and moves back into the Snyder’s farmhouse. The boys hold onto the promise that one day, they will be “together”, when the timing is right.

Damian offers Luke a substantial Grimaldi inheritance. Though Luke wants nothing from his father, Noah and Lucinda persuade him to put the money to good use, leading Luke to create a charitable foundation. Lucinda hires nonprofit lawyer Brian, whose conservative views—urging Luke to hide his relationship with Noah and opposing promotion at a gay film festival—strain their rapport. Brian falls in love with Lucinda and the two get married. When the university threatens to cancel the festival, Luke runs against his ex–best friend Kevin for student government. Desperate to win, Luke allows election fraud; Noah, unable to lie, confesses. Luke is expelled and spirals, resenting Noah and relapsing into drinking.

Brian later finds Luke drunk and comforts him, crossing a line by kissing him, then gaslighting Luke into doubting it. When Brian admits the attraction but refuses to label himself or leave Lucinda, they call an uneasy truce. Luke and Noah reunite at Christmas, but jealousy and miscommunication resurface on New Year’s Eve when Luke drunkenly kisses Brian and Noah witnesses it, believing the worst, ending things with Luke. After failed interventions by friends and family, a heated confrontation finally breaks the stalemate—Noah admits his fear, kisses Luke, and they reconcile, sharing their first night together. By Valentine’s Day, they discuss moving in but decide to wait, reaffirming their commitment and future together.

Despite reuniting with Noah, Luke remained directionless until the overdose death of their friend Reg Addington shook him deeply. Determined to uncover the truth, Luke and Noah investigated and soon witnessed Elwood Hoffman being run off the road and murdered. Their efforts ultimately exposed Kevin’s best friend, Mark Vero, as the dealer who sold Reg the drugs and killed Elwood to silence him.

In the aftermath, Luke committed himself fully to running his charitable foundation, appointing Lily as chief administrator. Reenergized by Luke’s renewed purpose, he and Noah decided to move in together, only to be denied an apartment because they were gay. In response, Luke and Lily redirected the foundation toward fighting for gay rights. Soon after, Luke was struck by a car. Damian, who happened to be nearby, rushed him to the hospital. Though many suspected Damian of orchestrating the attack to prevent Grimaldi money from supporting gay causes, Damian insisted he had returned to reconcile with his son.

As strange incidents began targeting Luke’s family and the foundation, Luke grew suspicious that Damian was undermining his work. He hired Zac and Zoe as foundation volunteers. When Noah suddenly disappeared for weeks, Luke was told he had left on a last-minute school trip to Lisbon. Damian, suspecting involvement from a rival branch of the Grimaldi family, traveled to Malta. Upon returning, he revealed that Noah had never been in Lisbon. Zac and Zoe then kidnapped Luke and brought him to where Noah was being held, revealing themselves as estranged Grimaldi relatives seeking Luke’s inheritance. Luke and Noah were ultimately rescued by Damian, proving his loyalty at last.

Noah was accepted into the film department’s Honors Program and, with Luke’s encouragement, chose to make his project about growing up as an army brat. While researching, he was approached by Colonel Mayer, who tried to enlist Noah’s help in fleeing the country. Noah instead turned him in to the police, an experience that forced him to abandon his original film concept. Seeking guidance, he turned to his faculty advisor, Professor Mason Jarvis.

As Noah and Mason worked closely together for weeks, Noah began to feel Mason was flirting with him. Luke reacted angrily and wanted Mason fired, but Noah pleaded with him to stay silent, needing Mason’s support to complete the film. After primary filming wrapped, Mason kissed Noah on the head—a moment Luke later discovered while watching an unedited copy of Noah’s footage. Luke showed the clip to Damian, who informed the dean, resulting in Mason’s dismissal.

Luke confronted Noah on set, and the two argued bitterly, with Noah accusing Luke of lacking faith in him. Shortly afterward, while preparing fireworks for a scene, Noah realized something was wrong just moments before they exploded in his face, leaving him severely injured.

The accident left Noah blind, a loss he blamed on Luke because of their fight. Though they spent the holidays together, Noah could not forgive him. Determined to regain his sight, Noah researched specialists and found Dr. Reid Oliver, who might be able to help. Luke contacted Reid, but the doctor refused. After consulting Damian, Luke resorted to blackmail, forcing Reid to agree to treat Noah—on the condition that Luke stay away. Noah accepted, despite Luke’s distress.

When Luke confronted Dr. Oliver, accusing him of homophobia due to his hostility, Reid revealed that he himself was gay. Ultimately, Noah ended his relationship with Luke, feeling Luke was too deeply involved in his life and insisting on facing his ordeal alone.

Luke’s foundation funded a new neurology wing at the hospital, bringing him into closer contact with Dr. Reid Oliver. As they worked together, the two grew increasingly close. When Reid faced legal trouble, Luke enlisted Lucinda’s help, clearing Reid of all charges. Reid later kissed Luke and assured him that Noah’s injury was not Luke’s fault, criticizing Noah for pushing Luke away despite his efforts.

Before Noah’s surgery, he sought out Luke, admitting his fear. Luke promised to stand by him and was there as Noah was taken into surgery. Afterward, Reid revealed a complication—a leak that might have caused brain damage. Distraught, Luke accused Reid of sabotaging the surgery so he could have Luke for himself. The confrontation turned intimate, but Luke stopped it, ashamed that he had strayed while Noah fought to recover. He rushed back to Noah’s bedside, begging him to wake up. When Noah finally opened his eyes and realized he could see again, the moment was joyous.

Noah apologized for blaming Luke and asked to reunite, but Luke admitted he didn’t know if things could ever be the same. Later, Luke and Reid acknowledged their growing feelings and kissed—just as Noah arrived and witnessed it. That night, Luke told Noah he loved him and wanted to try again, but Noah angrily refused, unwilling to be anyone’s second choice. Days later, Noah apologized, and they agreed to remain friends. Luke and Reid then began a relationship.

When Chris Hughes was diagnosed with a viral heart infection and urgently needed a transplant, a donor heart became available in Bay City. Determined to secure it, Dr. Reid Oliver rushed there himself. Trying to save time, he sped across train tracks as the gates were closing and was struck by a train. Though he initially survived, Reid was transferred to Oakdale Hospital, where he gave Luke power of attorney, said goodbye, and died.

Luke authorized Reid’s heart to be donated to Chris. He chose to have Reid cremated, placing half of his ashes in the cornerstone of the new neurology wing and scattering the other half at the Snyder farm, ensuring Reid would always remain close to him. Later, Luke visited Chris and asked to listen to his heartbeat, wanting to hear Reid’s heart one last time.

Noah offered to stay with Luke through his grief, but Luke urged him to go to Los Angeles and pursue his film career. They went to WOAK together, reminiscing about how they first met and shared their first kiss. Noah told Luke he understood that Luke needed time to grieve and honor Reid’s memory, but promised he would be waiting if Luke ever chose to join him. They shared a final kiss, and Noah left.
