Gordon Shumway, a sarcastic, furry alien from the planet Melmac, crash-lands in the garage of the suburban Tanner family and is taken in by them as a secret member of the household. Nicknamed ALF, he struggles with culture shock and his desire to eat the family cat, while the Tanners try to hide him from the authorities and their nosy neighbours.
