Event A pivotal series of events on Earth, the Bell Riots began after the United States government created Sanctuary Districts to house the homeless and unemployed. What were presented as humanitarian solutions quickly degenerated into inhumane internment camps for the poor and mentally ill.
The breaking point came when Gabriel Bell and other residents of Sanctuary District A in San Francisco seized control of the district, taking hostages and demanding the government finally hear their grievances. Their stories reached the outside world, exposing the true conditions inside and sparking unrest across the country. In response, the Governor of California ordered the National Guard to retake the district by force. Hundreds of residents were killed in the assault, and Gabriel Bell sacrificed his life protecting the hostages.
The tragedy turned public opinion against the entire system, eventually leading to the abolition of the Sanctuary Districts and forcing the United States to confront its growing social problems.
