Argo City was a on the planet Krypton. When he learnt of Krypton’s eminent destruction, Zor-El built a shield which protected Argo City, saving it from Krypton's destruction. Zor-El later died, having been injured while creating the shield. Harun-El, also known as Black Kryptonite, made the newly inhospitable atmosphere livable for the Kryptonians in Argo City. The City drifted through space until it arrived in the Sol system.

The city, along with a majority of its inhabitants, was destroyed by an antimatter wave during the Anti-Monitor Crisis, in 2019. However, with the help of Oliver Queen as the Spectre, during the formation of Earth-Prime, Argo and its people, was restored.
