Dance of the Dragons

Date: 129 AC – 131 AC

A brutal Targaryen civil war fought over succession to the Iron Throne. After the death of King Viserys I, rival factions backed his daughter Rhaenyra and his son Aegon II, splitting House Targaryen into opposing camps known as the Blacks and the Greens. What began as a political dispute quickly escalated into open war once dragons were brought into the fighting.

Battles erupted across Westeros and the skies above it, with dragon against dragon and entire regions devastated in the crossfire. Castles burned, cities rioted, and noble houses were forced to choose sides or be destroyed. The war shattered the mystique of Targaryen invincibility, as dragons that once secured the dynasty’s rule became weapons of mutual annihilation.

The conflict ended with both claimants dead and House Targaryen gravely weakened. Most of the dragons were killed, the realm was exhausted, and the dynasty never fully recovered its former power. The Dance of the Dragons became a warning etched into history about ambition, succession, and the cost of turning absolute power inward.
