A desktop monitor is a personal computer console used as early as 2151 aboard starships and starbases by space-faring organizations. These devices were used for personal library computer retrieval and for visual communications.

During the 22nd and 23th centuries, Starfleet employed at least two styles of desktop monitors aboard its deep space vessels. A standard desktop monitor and a Three-sided monitor. By the 24th century, Starfleet had dozens varying styles of standard Monitors but had abandoned the three-sided ones.
