Iden's Rebellion

Date: 2377

Using holo-technology inadvertently provided by the USS Voyager, the Hirogen constructed vast hunting stations in which holographic prey were pursued for sport. Seeking more “authentic” hunts, the Hirogen programmed the holograms to experience pain and fear, while also granting them regeneration after death. These changes led to rapid cognitive development, and many holograms achieved self-awareness, beginning to question their endless victimization.

Starfleet-programmed holograms rebelled, killing forty-three Hirogen hunters aboard one such station. Voyager responded to the resulting distress call and discovered the station littered with Hirogen corpses, slain with a mixture of Federation, Klingon, and Romulan weapons. One Hirogen survivor, Donik, was found alive. The holograms, led by Iden, escaped the station, destroyed a Hirogen vessel, and abducted The Doctor, hoping to gain his support.

As Voyager pursued them, Iden’s behavior became increasingly extreme. Declaring himself a prophet destined to “liberate” all holograms, he ordered violent acts against organics and attempted to establish a new holographic society with himself as a god-like ruler. His plans centered on colonizing the demon-class planet Ha’Dara using a photonic field generator, built with the coerced assistance of B'Elanna Torres and the hologram Kejal.

When Hirogen forces closed in, Voyager disabled their ships, but Iden retaliated by stranding the Hirogen on Ha’Dara’s surface and preparing a massacre using the Doctor’s mobile emitter. Torres and Kejal ultimately prevented the slaughter, and the Doctor destroyed Iden’s program.
