Transporter
- Device capable of moving an object from one location to another
- Initiated by the request to "energize", began with a lock to coordinates;
- The destination was verified & programmed, via the targeting scanners
- The users was dematerialized, broken down into a stream of subatomic particles
- This stream, called the matter stream, was briefly stored in a pattern buffer;
- Biofilters were used for decontamination if needed, could also deactivate weapons
- User was reassembled or rematerialized at their destination
- The whole transporter process was called beaming
- 20th Century: Vulcans already possessed teleportation technology
- 2069: The Terratins possessed or developed transporter technology
- 2124: Emory Erickson invented Earth's first transporter
- Early transporters took about 90 seconds and were dangerous
- Several people were lost during early transporter experiments
- Enterprise NX-01 was one of the first Starfleet ships authorized to transport living beings
- 2209: Transporter psychosis became a known transporter-related illness
- Improved pattern buffers eventually made transporter psychosis extremely rare
- 2249: New transporter designs used much less power
- 24th Century: Transporters became the most reliable form of short-range travel
- Site-to-site transport allowed direct transportation between locations
- 2401: Changelings altered Starfleet transporters with Borg-modified DNA
- Beverly Crusher later used transporters to remove the Borg alterations
- 29th Century: Temporal transporters allowed people to travel through time
- 32nd Century: Starfleet incorporated personal transporters into Tricom badges
