The Zeo Crystal is a powerful ore which contains Morphin Grid Energy in it rawest and purest form.
According to the legends of Eltar, in a time long long ago, the Morphin Realm was under the control of an evil hydra/dragon-like demon named Vitara. He constantly consumed the life-giving energy of the Grid so no life could emerge from his domain in the universe. A warrior god named Zeon, heard the cries of the first beings of life that clung to existence to vanquish the beast. Zeon engaged in a great battle across creation, trading blows with Vitara. Neither seemed to gain an advantage until Zeon seemed to collapse from exhaustion. However, the god pretended to be weakened, as soon as Vitara went in for the kill, Zeon grabbed a crystal shard and stabbed the demon’s heart. This placed all the energy the foul beast had consumed into the shard forging the Zeo Crystal and restoring the Morphin Grid energy to flow freely, allowing life in the universe to blossom and grow.
Eventually, the Zeo Crystal came under the protection of a group wizards called Bandorians, who built a castle on a moon in the A47 galaxy, where they waited for the arrival of the ones destined to protect the crystal from the forces of Dark Specter, and the Eltarians, led by their Supreme Guardian, Zophram. The Bandorians showed Zophram and his subordinates, Zordon and Zartus, the life-giving power of the crystal, and Zordon relayed the tale of Zeon and Vitara to his comrades. While Zordon believed Zophram to be Zeon reborn and urged him to use the Crystal to end the war with Dark Specter, Zophram refused to allow anyone to touch the crystal, considering it too dangerous.
In secret, Zartus would meet with the leader of the Bandorians and convinced them to place a protective spell upon the Zeo Crystal, one that was undetectable and unbreakable, called the Fire of Truth, which would protect the Zeo Crystal from ever being touched by unworthy hands seeking to use its power for evil. Though the Bandorian was wary of placing such a spell upon the crystal, Zartus ultimately convinced the mage to do so, the cost of the spell being the flesh of the Bandorian's arm.
In truth, Zartus had the spell placed on the Crystal so that when Zophram eventually grew frustrated fighting Dark Specter's seemingly limitless forces, and tried to gain the power, he would be stopped. Upon touching the Crystal, the flesh from Zophram's entire body was burned away, and all life across the moon was wiped out, the Bandorians as well, leaving only their palace, a few Eltarian guards, Zartus, and a skinned but barely alive Zophram left. Zartus murdered the guards and fled with Zophram, letting the universe believe him having died trying to end the war only to be felled by the Zeo Crystal.
In truth, Zophram survived, but the experience drove him to insanity, and he believed Zordon had tricked him into nearly killing himself so he could take his place as Supreme Guardian, never realizing that had been Zartus' plan all along. Zophram would recover from his injuries and rechristen himself as Lord Zedd, becoming Zordon's archenemy for millenia to come. Zordon took up his mentor's position, and secretly had an observation outpost placed on the moon to monitor the Zeo Crystal at all times, though Dark Specter ceased his efforts to obtain it once it became believed no one could touch the crystal without suffering Zophram's supposed fate.
Decades later, knowing that Master Vile had plans for the crystal, Zordon asks the Rangers to acquire and destroy it. Tommy Oliver, the White Ranger, was able to successfully gain the Zeo Crystal and its power was given to the Power rangers. The Zeo powers were put aside when the Rangers gained the power of Turbo.
By 2018, Tommy had incorporated his Zeo Sub Crystal into his Master Morpher, allowing him to morph into his Zeo Ranger V Red form at any time.
